Hello once again from the Blueberry farm!
Often, I am asked what I do after harvest. And, I joke that I go to Las Vegas. The truth is I get the farm ready for the next harvest.
So, every odd year in January, I cut back rows of Blueberry bushes which have grown too tall or too old. But, not all rows. This year, using a chain saw, I cut back 16 rows or about 700 plants to about 18″ high. But, not to worry, we have over 9000 plants. This task took me over 20 days to complete. It will take these plants, that I cut back, two seasons before they can produce Blueberries. It is possibly the hardest task that I do. And, I do it alone, which works best for me. But, it is well worth it, in order to increase the yield of the plant.
I hope this post was somewhat interesting. Please let me know. If yes, I plan to post other things that I do at the farm. Such that, ‘what goes on at the Blueberry farm doesn’t necessarily have to stay at the Blueberry farm.’.
This pic is one of the rows that I cut back.
Sorry, I still have not found out how to post pics upright.
